United Against Malaria – Rotary and Rotaract Bring Health and Hope to Mityana North

On Saturday, 9th August, Mityana North came alive with a united community effort to fight one of the most persistent health challenges in the region, malaria. The United Against Malaria Project was spearheaded by the Rotaract Club of Kampala North in partnership with the Rotaract Club of Bwebajja, the Rotary Club of Kampala North, and the Rotary Club of Kampala Springs.

This impactful initiative was funded by Malaria Partners Uganda and Malaria Partners International, with generous support from Joint Medical Stores, Mityana District Health Team, Mityana Health Centre IV, ASAP Partners, and Next Media Services. Together, these organizations and partners pooled resources, expertise, and passion to protect the community from malaria and raise awareness about prevention.

The day began with the official launch of the United Against Malaria Project, marking a strong commitment to sustained action. Among the key contributions was the donation of a high-quality microscope to Kiyongaanyi Health Centre, enabling faster and more accurate malaria diagnosis.

Prevention took center stage through the distribution of mosquito nets to both the health centre and Namutidde C/U Primary School, alongside the planting of mosquito-repellent trees to create natural, long-term protection.

A free medical camp served over 500 community members, offering blood tests, counselling, treatment, and mosquito nets all at no cost. The atmosphere was one of compassion, teamwork, and hope.

Education was another cornerstone of the day. Malaria prevention posters were installed at Namutidde C/U Primary School, and both pupils and community members were trained on the proper use of mosquito nets. To ensure the project’s sustainability, Malaria Ambassadors were appointed at the school to champion awareness throughout the year.

The United Against Malaria Project in Mityana North showcased what can be achieved when youth leaders, Rotary, community partners, and global supporters come together. By combining immediate health interventions with sustainable prevention and education, this initiative is paving the way toward a healthier, malaria-free future for Mityana North.
